It’s a question I hear often, sometimes from a principal, sometimes from a PTO volunteer trying to stretch a shrinking budget, sometimes from a counselor who has a program in mind but isn’t sure it’s realistic: “Do you offer discounts for Title 1 schools?”
The short answer is that we don’t have a specific Title 1 discount to offer. Academic Entertainment is a woman-owned, small family business — we don’t receive government funding, reimbursement, or financial incentives for reducing our fees for Title 1 schools. I wish that piece existed, because I know how real the budget gap can be. But it doesn’t, so I want to be upfront about that rather than let anyone assume otherwise.
What I can tell you, after more than 30 years of doing this, is that “no discount” doesn’t mean “no options.”
Why I Still Say “Talk to Us First”
I’ve had this conversation with hundreds of schools over the years, and I’ve learned that the price a school assembly gets quoted at first isn’t always the price it has to stay at. A few things can move the number:
- Where your school is located, relative to where a presenter is already traveling
- Which program you’re considering — some formats cost less to bring in than others
- Presenter availability on the dates you’re flexible about
- How much scheduling flexibility you have — a week you can shift, a time of year that’s easier for touring presenters
- Whether nearby schools want the same or a similar program, so a presenter’s travel and setup costs get shared
That last one is honestly where I’ve found the most room to work with. If I know a presenter is already going to be in your region, or if I can pair your assembly with another school’s booking, the number I come back with can look very different from the one I started with.
None of this is guaranteed. Some programs and some presenters just don’t have flexibility on price, no matter how the schedule lines up. But I’d rather look and tell you “this is the best I can do” than have a school rule itself out before I’ve even had the chance to check.
Questions I Get Asked a Lot
“Do you work with schools like ours?” Yes. We work with elementary, middle, and high schools, PTOs and PTAs, principals, teachers, and counselors across the country — and Title 1 schools are a regular part of that mix, not an exception to it.
“What kinds of programs do you offer?” Our presenters cover STEM and science, character education, anti-bullying, social-emotional learning, reading and literacy, health and wellness, cultural arts, and general educational entertainment. If you have a specific goal for your students — building empathy, getting kids excited about reading, reinforcing kindness — there’s likely a program built around it.

“What if I don’t know exactly what we want yet?” That’s fine, and honestly common. Let me know what you’re trying to accomplish for your students this year, and I can suggest a few directions rather than asking you to pick blind from a catalog.
“Is it worth reaching out if our budget is really tight?” Yes. The only way I can tell you whether something works is if I know your numbers. I can’t promise a fit every time, but I can promise I’ll actually look, and I’ll tell you honestly if I don’t think we can make it work rather than stringing you along.
“What do you need from us to get started?” Just your location, your preferred dates (and how flexible those dates are), the kind of program you’re picturing, and your approximate budget. That’s enough for me to check presenter availability and travel routes and see what’s possible.
The Bottom Line
I can’t offer a special Title 1 rate — I wish I could, but that’s not how our business is set up. What I can offer is thirty-plus years of knowing how to work the pieces of a booking — location, timing, presenter routing, neighboring schools — to find the best possible number for a school that’s working with less.
If your school has a program in mind and a budget that feels tight, reach out and tell me what you’re working with. I can’t promise a discount. I can promise I’ll actually try.
