BalloonTalk is a STEM/STEAM program that enlightens your students about the exciting adventure of piloting this unique aircraft by bringing a real hot air balloon to your school!
BalloonTalk engages students in ways completely different than other programs that most kids have never encountered. It’s an ideal platform for teaching science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) concepts and makes them more engaging and relatable! We use hot air balloons to get your students pumped and make an impression that lasts. How does a hot air balloon fly? What does the pilot need to do? Presentations cover the science of hot air ballooning, an overview of a hot air balloon’s working parts, various ballooning occupations, how to become a licensed pilot, a Q&A with souvenir rubber ducks, and the donation of a hot air balloon book for your school library.

About
In addition to running BalloonTalk, Kelly Hilberth is a commercial hot air balloon pilot. She actively presents instructional balloon programs at elementary, middle, and high schools when she isn’t flying balloons. She treasures the time spent assisting pupils in appreciating the inventiveness and discovery of science as well as the inventiveness of design in problem-solving. She enjoys inspiring kids to go above the norm, always choose the picturesque path, and allow their dreams to come true.
BalloonTalk Set-up Datasheet
Note: requires an alternate indoor venue in case of inclement weather.
Audience: K-12 Capacity: 400 Prefer split younger/older but not required Presentation Time: 90 minutes Set-Up Time: Will arrive at least 1 hour prior to start time Take-Down Time: 45 minutes Audience Size: The balloon has the capacity to fit approximately 400 students.
Note: Balloon Talk is BOTH indoors and outdoors. Weather-permitting. If weather is bad, the entire program will be done indoors. Total about 90 minutes, half indoors, half outdoors.
Presentation Area: Outdoors: Approx. 150’ x 150’, prefers a grassy surface. Must be free of obstacles including power lines. Indoors: Height of ceiling is NOT an issue. Lighting IS – show requires at least a partially darkened area. Gymnasium, cafeteria, or multi-purpose room is fine.
Equipment Requirements: Access to electrical outlets.

As I read in a newspaper today about an International ( Hot Air) Balloon Fiesta happening in Europe, I just want to remind people that you have the opportunity to see one right in your own city or town! Last year, Academic Entertainment Inc came to our school & gave an excellent presentation/ demonstration on all aspects of hot air ballooning. It was very exciting to actually walk into an opened up balloon, see the “carriage” & how it powers up, & hear from the excellent instructor how it all works. This was possibly the first ( and only) opportunity for many of us to get this close to a hot air balloon. The staff were kind, well- informed, and the whole experience was interesting and fun!
