Academic Entertainment is proud to announce that we are a Certified Women Business Enterprise (WBE). In June 2020, we were certified by the Washington State Office of Minority and Women’s Business Enterprises (OMWBE).
As an agent for artists and entertainers, we present more than 30 presenters and motivational guest speakers that provide live and virtual educational entertainment to K-12 schools and summer camps nationwide.
We are proud to be a 100 percent woman-owned and majority female-operated and managed women business enterprise. We’re also a small, family business. We believe that successful small businesses led by minorities, women, and veterans make our economy and our families more resilient, strengthen our communities, and improve the quality of life for all citizens.
About Us
Academic Entertainment was built from the ground up by Gina Jamison in the mid-1990s. Gina, a single working mom of three school-age girls, started Academic Entertainment with one artist, a California phone book directory of public schools, and a make-shift plywood desk in her bedroom. She gave herself two weeks to cold call and make sales, before the internet was in wide use. It’s amazing the grit, passion, and perseverance it took to make Academic Entertainment what we are today.
Gina incorporated Academic Entertainment in 1997. Now in 2020, we represent more than forty educational and motivational school assemblies, summer camp shows and arts-in-education programs, available in-person and online across the United States. Gina still works directly in the day-to-day operations of the small business.
We call ourselves a family business because the three key people managing our company are related. Gina contracted her ex-husband, Brad, to work in Sales and Marketing for Academic Entertainment 15 years ago. Their daughter, Whitney, is the newest team member and next generation of the company. Whitney has worked with Academic Entertainment for more than five years.
We make every attempt to diversity our line-up of artists and entertainers with minorities and female presenters. Crystal Clear Science and Diversity of Dance are two examples. We believe in the power of embracing diversity and ensuring a variety of perspectives and experiences are available to youth. Our mission is to promote education through quality entertainment.
We’re proud to be self-employed entrepreneurs and to represent independent artists and presenters and to continue to innovate and remain at the cutting edge of our industry. In response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, we embraced the challenge and worked with our artists to develop virtual assemblies and online workshops that work in a variety of settings to ensure the health and safety of all students. Whether your school will return virtually, in-person, or in a hybrid or blended format, we’ve got you covered!
