Find Your Inner Pete

Pete the Cat books with Eric Litwin

Building Resilience, Confidence, and a Positive Mindset Through Music and Storytelling

Grades: PrK–6
Program Length: 40–45 minutes

What makes Pete the Cat so cool? No matter what happens, Pete keeps moving forward with a song and a positive attitude!

In Find Your Inner Pete, Michael Levine helps students discover how they can approach everyday challenges with that same spirit. Through familiar stories, lively music, interactive activities, and playful audience participation, students explore practical ways to manage emotions, overcome setbacks, and develop confidence.

Rather than simply telling children to stay positive, Michael introduces techniques they can use when situations become frustrating, overwhelming, or unexpected. Students discover how breathing, music, flexible thinking, and a little creativity can help them respond to challenges more effectively.

The result is an entertaining, educational assembly that brings social-emotional learning to life while giving students and teachers strategies they can continue using throughout the school year.

Learning Objectives

Students will explore and practice:

  • Emotional Awareness and Self-Regulation: Recognize feelings, respond calmly to frustrating situations, and develop healthy ways to manage emotional reactions.
  • Mindfulness and Relaxation: Practice simple breathing and thought-management techniques that encourage focus and emotional balance.
  • Resilience and Growth Mindset: Learn to view mistakes and setbacks as opportunities to adapt, improve, and try again.
  • Positive Classroom Connections: Develop shared strategies that encourage cooperation, reduce stress, and maintain a supportive learning environment.
  • Music and Emotional Expression: Discover how rhythm, tempo, and musical expression can influence mood and help students understand their feelings.

Educational Support Materials

The learning doesn’t end when the assembly is over!

Participating schools receive Michael’s Inner Pete Cheat Sheet, featuring practical activities and reminders that reinforce the social-emotional skills introduced during the performance.

Teachers can use these tools to revisit important lessons, encourage classroom discussions, and help students apply their new strategies to everyday experiences.
