An Exciting Soccer Assembly for Schools

The Futboleros school assembly gives students an up-close look at the dedication, coordination and practice behind freestyle soccer. As a talented Futbolero athlete demonstrates advanced ball-handling skills, creative combinations and crowd-pleasing tricks, students also receive a motivational message about how sports develop perseverance, confidence, discipline and teamwork—the foundational skills needed to succeed in school, future careers and everyday life. To customize the motivational message around specific topics or school initiatives, please provide a few bullet points when booking.

This engaging program is an excellent choice for:

• School assemblies
• Field days and family nights
• Sports and wellness celebrations
• Summer camps
• Community events
• Tournaments and athletic programs
• Corporate and private events
• Conferences, conventions and trade shows

Every performance is delivered with enthusiasm and a genuine passion for the world’s most popular sport. Futboleros programs are available for events nationwide.

Note – Program pricing includes a performance by one Futboleros athlete. Additional performers may be requested for an added fee, subject to availability. Your school may have a different person as your presenter, or varied backdrops and props depending on your area. Outdoor programs require an indoor backup plan.

Meet Futboleros Founder James Ortega

Futboleros founder James Ortega was born in Quito, Ecuador, and raised in Meriden, Connecticut, where soccer was an important part of family life. After moving to Los Angeles, James began exploring ways to entertain audiences beyond traditional competitive play.

He developed a distinctive freestyle approach built around juggling, ball control and inventive soccer tricks. Over the course of his career, James has performed at thousands of events, appeared in more than 20 commercials and four movies, and served as head of entertainment for the LA Galaxy from 2008 through 2013.

In 2008, James shared his training methods through his instructional video, Extreme Soccer Skills. One of his career highlights came in 2014, when he participated in the New Year’s Day Rose Parade on behalf of the American Youth Soccer Organization.

Today, James continues to perform, teach and develop the next generation of freestyle soccer talent. He also created a progressive soccer academy for beginning, intermediate and advanced players, along with a soccer training device known as the “PK—The Perfect Kick.”

Futboleros Soccer Assembly FAQs

What grade levels is the Futboleros assembly for?

Futboleros works for students from PreK through 12th grade. If you book more than one show, we recommend grouping students by grade (for example, K–3 and 4–6) so each performance fits the age of the audience.

How long is the show?

Each performance runs 45 to 60 minutes. The performer needs about 30 minutes to set up and 10 minutes to pack up afterward.

How many students can attend one performance?

Up to 400 students per in-person show. For larger schools, book more than one performance and split students by grade.

How much space do we need?

A well-lit area of at least 8 x 20 feet. Most schools use the gym or an outdoor court. Floor level works best, with students seated on the floor rather than in chairs. If you use a stage, it needs stairs so student volunteers can get up easily.

Can the show be held outdoors?

Yes. It’s a popular choice for field days and outdoor events. Outdoor shows do need an indoor backup location in case of bad weather.

What equipment does our school need to provide?

A Bluetooth-enabled PA system with a microphone (wireless works best) and a way to connect a phone or tablet for music. Please also reserve a parking spot near the entrance for loading and unloading so the show can start on time.

Is this a good fit for summer camps and field days?

Yes. Besides school assemblies, Futboleros is often booked for summer camps, field days, family nights, and sports and wellness celebrations.

Will James Ortega perform at our school?

Standard pricing includes one Futboleros performer. Depending on your location, your school may get another member of the Futboleros team, and backdrops and props may vary. You can request additional performers for an added fee, subject to availability.

How much does the Futboleros assembly cost?

Pricing depends on your date, location, and number of shows. Request pricing and dates and we’ll get back to you with availability. Looking for ways to pay for it? See our grants and funding sources page.

Mr. Hollywood (James Ortega) came to our school as a one-man Futbolero show, and he didn’t disappoint! In our first week of school, his hour-long entertainment had our students smiling, laughing, and gasping! His inspiring story combined with impressive trick shots, juggling, and student audience engagement helped us launch the year in style. From preschoolers to teachers, literally EVERYONE had their eyes locked in on the show. Thank you, Mr. Hollywood, for your love of soccer, your passion for learning, the really cool soccer balls and stickers, and the way you inspire!
