6+1 Writing Fun with Jim Mitchell is an upbeat "LIVE ACTION" language arts elementary school assembly program. 6+1 Writing Fun is designed to keep children entertained and engaged while learning at the same time. Students from Kindergarten though 6th grade are exposed to all of the 6+1 Writing Traits:

  • Ideas
  • Organization
  • Voice
  • Word Choice
  • Sentence Fluency
  • Conventions
  • Presentation

Students experience all of the 6+1 writing traits in this program with interactive examples of how the traits apply to their own compositions.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.  I am recommending this show to other area schools.  It was right on target, communicated in the students' language and music and he even had usually "bored" 6th graders involved!

6+1 Writing Fun

I just wanted to let you guys know about a fabulous assembly program we had today at SJS.  Without a doubt, this was one of the best we’ve had in my tenure.  Teachers left the assembly with “two thumbs up” and “best ever” comments, which is highly unusual.   As a note, we had G2-G5 in the assembly at one time and Jim kept them totally captivated the entire hour. He does several other shows apparently, which we’ve not seen, but I would believe them to be just as well done.   Strong recommendation for anyone considering programs for the end of the year and beyond.

The students had a great time.  I spoke with a few of the 2nd grade parents during pickup and they told me that their children loved the program.  One little boy remembered all the steps.  The presenter did a wonderful job keeping the program lively and very informative.  I even learned a few things to help my son with his upcoming "Cereal Box Book Report".  Thank you for a wonderful program.

Jim was a GREAT performer. He kept all the kids actively engaged and really knew his material well. The teachers and our principal thought the show was great success. The 6+1 Writing Fun show was wonderful!  It was interactive, silly, and educational - everything we were looking for in our K-3 building.  The show kept every child engaged as they wrote a group story.  It may have been the most entertaining writing lesson the children have ever had.

Jim was outstanding. He knew the material well which is an important factor - but his high energy delivery was amazing.  He kept the kids engaged throughout the show - and had a wonderful way with the children's varied answers - very positive - very upbeat - very informative. The ending was just astounding - the kids gasped in disbelief at what they accomplished together.

I cannot remember ever having more enthusiasm expressed by both students and faculty for an educational show.  Everybody loved it.  The teachers will be referring to it often to remind the students to use the writing traits.  The fourth graders were eager to get back to their creative writing in the afternoon.  One boy commented, "I know.  I get it now.  I have lots more ideas.  I will use them."  I highly recommend it and have sent emails to fellow librarians already.

I just wanted to tell you how absolutely thrilled we were with Jim's show! I have never seen nor heard, such accolades from every teacher after a performance! Two thumbs up from everyone both on an entertainment level but more importantly, on an educational level as well. The students were so engaged and excited to participate. Every minute of the presentation was filled with information and presented "with hot sauce!". I would be happy to recommend Jim and the 6+1 Writing Fun program to any school!
