Musical Life Skills
With Professional Musician and Songwriter Arthur Lee Land
Age Range: K-12
Musical Life Skills is a fun, engaging and technologically innovative assembly program. The educational objective of this program is to teach youth the value of HARMONY and LISTENING as essential life skills through music and "The Art of Live-Looping". Arthur defines HARMONY in this way: To get along with others. "...To learn how to get along with their peers is one of the biggest challenges that young children have..." -- Samuel Meisels, President of The Erikson Institute. "The Art of Live-Looping" is Arthur Lee Land's professional musical focus in which he utilizes live-recording technology to create a one-man-band by layering African percussion, bass, acoustic and electric guitars, guitar synthesizer, vocals and talk box. A truly amazing program! Please take a moment to view this short video clip.

The following is the announcement that I wrote for our PTA newsletter raving about the assembly:
On Monday, December 17th the school was treated to a fantastic assembly. Arthur Lee Land is a touring musician who plays many different instruments. The assembly focused on Mr. Land\'s lesson about how harmony is so important in music as it is in life. He asked the students, \"Why do you think we have only one mouth and two ears?\" It is vital to listen in order to get along. It was fascinating to watch different instruments being played, recorded and looped to make this one-man-band sound like a complete ensemble. Many thanks to PTA for bringing the school such an enjoyable and educational program!

Arthur connected with the audience from the start. He began playing rhythms as the students entered the gym for the program. His message about listening and harmony were evident. He involved the students throughout his presentation as well.

Arthur has created a connection with our students. He came to our school as an unknown. Some of our students had seen him at
summer camp and recommended that he call our school, so he did. When Arthur came to our school, he was able to create a
connection that has continued from one year to the next. Our students love Arthur.

Arthur not only evoked a healthy interest in music, but he impressed both the children and me with how he used technology to augment his solo renderings. When he involved the students he won the crowd. His performance/sharing was engaging and educational for my ten and eleven year olds.....inspirational.
